This course is designed to provide a summary of the coverage offered under the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) professional liability insurance policy. General insurance terms will be introduced to assist with the understanding of the policy and its contents as it pertains to the AMTA professional liability policy. This course describes how to protect yourself from malpractice. It promotes an understanding of the risks through real claim examples with a risk management review of each claim.
This course introduces you to both professional liability insurance and ways to protect yourself from malpractice. When you finish this course you will be able to:
• Define basic insurance terms introduced in the overview.
• Define the four benefits of professional liability insurance and your responsibilities as an insured.
• Distinguish between the seven kinds of liability defined in this course.
• Describe the single most common cause of malpractice lawsuits.
• List five other methods you can use to prevent an incident after providing a safe environment and quality care.
• Describe the uses and limitations of an incident report.
• Describe how to limit risk where clients have a pinched sciatic nerve, have been burned with hot stone massage, or when linens cause a fire.
