Whiplash syndrome is a complex condition that requires a multidisciplinary approach. In this course, explore evidence-based massage therapy techniques for addressing whiplash-associated disorders (WAD). Gain a deeper understanding of the mechanics of whiplash injuries and how principles of physics—such as force, leverage, and tension—contribute to their progression. Discover how to apply this knowledge to tailor your sessions to meet your client’s needs.
At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- List the stages of the 12-week healing phase
- Identify how each stage of the 12-week healing phases can present in the massage therapy room
- Use a pain and energy scale to determine how best to treat a client with whiplash to make space for the body to heal
- Explain how the vestibular ocular apparatus contributes to chronic long-term inflammation, muscle weakening, and forward head posture post-injury
- Differentiate between the direct and indirect approaches to whiplash treatment
- Determine when to apply the direct or indirect approach with a whiplash client
- Describe massage techniques for the direct and indirect approaches
