It has become the norm to spend five to eight hours a day hunched over a small mobile device, which has led to painful imbalances of the neck and shoulder girdle. People are experiencing a growing number of chronic symptoms that are even starting to present in adolescents. These risk factors are part of a new epidemic called “Tech Neck Syndrome” (TNS). In this course, discover how massage therapy and stretching protocols can help clients and massage therapists with TNS symptoms.
When you finish this course, you will be able to:
- Discuss the complexities of Text Neck Syndrome (TNS) including how it is caused, what separates it from similar conditions and the most saturated demographics.
- Determine the long-term consequences of not addressing the condition.
- Describe the postural and anatomical considerations of TN in detail.
- Assess clients and discover why they are experiencing a certain symptomology and gauge the extent of physical, mental and emotional symptoms affecting their daily lifestyle.
- Consider what conventional treatments exist for TN and understand the advantages and limitations, then decide who to refer out to if complete therapeutic bene?ts are beyond your scope of practice.
- Create a massage therapy protocol to help relieve symptoms, directly for pain, tightness, headaches, insomnia and stress.
- Review stretching protocols that can be added to a massage session.
As a reminder, before practicing any new modalities or techniques, check with your state’s massage therapy regulatory authority to ensure they are within the state’s defined scope of practice for massage therapy.
