A Holistic Model for Ethical Practice

Author(s): Suzanne Nixon, EdD, CMT, LPC, LMFT

2CE credits 8 Lessons Text

Explore a holistic model for working with ethical dilemmas. This course incorporates the concept of mindfulness, or the practice of being present in the moment. Approaching ethics in a holistic manner brings respect and honor to the knowledge of the mind, body, and psyche.

The premise and model presented here are an expansion of information in The Heart of Ethics (1999) and Conscious Ethics (2003). These writings offered massage therapists an understanding of ethics and an approach to examining ethical dilemmas from a body-centered or somatic perspective.

This course counts towards NCBTMB’s Ethics credit requirement.

When you finish this course, you will be able to:

  • Define the benefit of an integrated ethical response.
  • Explain the importance of mind/body communication in ethics.
  • Describe key terms for standards of practice and codes of ethics.
  • Integrate the 14-point model presented into your practice.
  • Assess the role of self-care in ethical practice.

  1. A Definition and Understanding of Ethics
  2. The Development of Ethics
  3. Discovering Your Personal Code of Ethics
  4. Understanding Professional Ethics
  5. Key Terms in an Ethical Practice
  6. Understanding Ethical Dilemmas
