This course underlines the fact that massage therapists may be the first line of defense in detecting skin cancer lesions for many of their clients. Massage therapists may be the only ones to view their clients’ backs and a knowledge of how skin cancer occurs and how to recognize it may save a client’s life. When you complete this course you will be able to:
- Assess how massage therapists can be the first line of defense against skin cancer.
- Define basics of skin cancer and how skin cancer occurs.
- Describe how to recognize various types of skin lesions.
- Develop communication methods for talking to clients about an important but delicate subject.
- List the resources available to educate clients about skin cancer detection and prevention.
Amanda Friedrichs, M.D., specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the many forms of skin cancer, acne, eczema and psoriasis. She volunteers with the American Academy of Dermatology and educates the public about the importance of skin cancer prevention and early detection.
